Petition

We call on the Royal Borough of Kingston Council to oppose promptly and unequivocally the proposed cuts to services at Kingston Hospital, in keeping with its resolution of 30 March 2010 that “This Council … unequivocally supports Kingston Hospital and will not support any loss of services especially Maternity and Accident and Emergency.”

Background information

In February 2011, it was announced that Kingston Hospital is planning to axe 486 posts over the next five years, almost a fifth of its total workforce. The plan is to cut:
• 22 consultants
• 214 nurses, midwives and health visitors
• 55 therapeutic, scientific, and technical staff
• 140 non-clinical posts.

Previous Council resolution dated Tuesday 30 March 2010
Consequently it was RESOLVED that this Council
(i) thanks the Heath Overview Panel for the work that they have done in scrutinising the issue of threatened closure of services at Kingston Hospital;

(iv) unequivocally supports Kingston Hospital and will not support any loss of services especially Maternity and Accident and Emergency.
