Petition
We the undersigned demand a new workable tenancy agreement for all council run allotments in Kingston. We require the council to enter into meaningful discussions with tenants representatives and for a new agreement to be drawn up with consultation from The National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners.
Background information
Allotment holders in Kingston were sent a new agreement in January 2010, with a covering letter stating that any plot holder who did not return a signed agreement would be evicted from their plot. This is legally incorrect as plot holders are under no obligation to sign a new agreement which has removed rights from tenants which existed under the old agreement. Collectively we agree that the new agreement is unworkable and are frustrated at being mislead by the council.

Dialogue
The council has worked with the Kingston Federation of Allotment Gardeners to amend the clauses in the tenancy agreement that caused concern with the petitioners. The amended agreement has been shared with the Kingston Road Allotment Association (lead petitioner) who agree with the amendments. The council would like to thank all those who helped bring this petition to a positive and satisfactory conclusion.
After lengthy discussions between Kingston Road Allotment Association, The Kingston Federation of Allotment Holders and Kingston Council, I am delighted to inform you that a new reworded agreement has been agreed and will be sent out to plot holders in January. I am strongly of the opinion that this agreement is far better for plot holders, improving their rights and lays out clearly the councils obligations to maintain ,. I would like to thank you for signing the petition. I never thought we would get as many signatures as we did. If you have any questions regarding the outcome of the petition please do not hesitate to contact me at kingstonroadallotments@gmail.com. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Charles
