Move Needle Exchange from Surbiton Hospital shared site.

Lime Tree Primary School and Surbiton Health Centre both provide important services to our local community. Given their close proximity to each other, it is essential to ensure the Safeguarding of the children on this shared site. We the undersigned, petition RBK Council to engage with the Kingston Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Surbiton Health Centre to stop any needle exchange and provision of methadone from the Surbiton Health Centre site and to move it away from this primary school in accordance with Home office Guidelines. We also request that the inappropriate positioning of benches on the Hospital site directly facing the children's playground be addressed.

Moor Lane Nursery Closure

This Nursery has been proposed to close in less than 5 months, the news of this closure has been relayed to Parents of the Nursery by mail, there has been no consultation, this news has come out of the blue. There are no provisions of childcare places offered as an alternative, there is not sufficient childcare facilities in Chessington. The tone of the letter from RBK is indicative that the premises the nursery reside on would be more profitable for the council if an alternative business venture was to use them, it mentions discussion about the future of the building, there have been no discussions of the current use of the building. The nursery takes up a fraction of the space in the building and is paying for use of the space. Staff and parents fundraise for improvements. Parents have not even been offered the opportunity to discuss ways of saving the nursery. At a time when the Government has said affordable childcare is a priority, RBK are announcing the closure of a nursery that provides just that, adding insult to injury with an entirely unrealistic notice period that disregards the wellbeing of an established community of children.

The Planned 2013/14 Council Tax rise

Kingston Council have refused government money to hold council tax down, and are placing a further burden on hard pressed local families by hiking the council tax up by 1.99%, adding another £25 for band D homes. Had the council increased the tax by about 13p more, this would have forced the Council to hold a referendum on whether residents approved of the tax hike. We residents demand that the Council does “not dodge democracy” and put their tax hike to a local referendum.
